Kick off the summer with a weeklong Painting Camp (June 26-30). Local art teacher and mom Spramani Elaun will guide students through a series of exercises and practices to help them explore the wonders of acrylic painting. Students will leave class with a new understanding about painting techniques and their own special creations. If this class sounds like fun, be sure to join Spramani for Drawing Camp (July 10-14) or Mixed Media Camp (July 17-21). Hey you can even stay and play for all three—who says you have to choose just one?!

Other camps include:

Morocco Exhibit: Before, During & After

journey (n.) —1. a traveling from one place to another, usually taking a rather long time. 2. passage or progress from one stage to another.

Whether physical, mental or spiritual, we tend to describe our journeys in the state of “during”—what we did or felt while we went through the actual experience. But what about the “before” and “after?” There must be some sort of preparation and digestion of events that goes into the bookends of our journey.

Over the last year, that has been my mindset as I prepared for, went on, and returned from my artist’s residency in Morocco. Even before I left for the cobbled streets of Tetouan, Morocco started to inspire me—weaving its bold colors and patterns into my work. It was on my mind… and in my spirit.

During my residency, I journeyed through two major projects. The first was an Artist Book that intricately combined Gelli prints and mixed media and my second project involved creating leather tote bags with a local leather smith.

In the year since my return, I’ve been hard at play creating pieces inspired by all of the amazing connections that I made in Morocco. Some with fellow artists, some with local artisans and some with dear Moroccans. All these relationships played a pivotal role in my journey and my growth as an artist. The mixed media pieces and paintings that came out of this process are as diverse as the people who inspired them, and represent my “After.”

Now that this journey is finally complete, I would like to invite you to join me in celebration of the culmination of this exciting time at my exhibit “Before, During & After” at First Street Gallery & Custom Framing (right next to Art Lounge!). My pieces will be on display from March  24- May 5, 2017, so be sure to check it out.

This show, will feature pieces that I created in all stages of this personal journey. I’m ecstatic to share with you all the effects that this period had on me artistically and personally… It’s only just recently that I’ve been able to articulate it.

As I transition from this journey, I prepare myself for the next… and I can’t wait to see what exciting growth and changes it brings!

Ushering in 2017

The year of 2016 my partner, Nancy and I opened the doors of Art Lounge on 101 to provide an intimate art teaching studio. As I am now a TRUE believer in fate and destiny I believe our story will arouse similar feelings for you. Nancy, an artist and graphic designer and I, the owner of an Encinitas art gallery, Art n Soul on 101, independently and not knowing one another had an IDEA to open an art studio. Merely, by coincidence, (or fate and destiny) we met in the neighboring frame shop where we overheard one another talking about wanting to rent the space around the corner which is now THANKFULLY the Lounge.  The essence of Art Lounge began this wildly unexpected meeting and our  simple trust, passion, and a heartfelt desire to develop a community-based teaching studio. Our mutual vision was to offer diverse mediums within an intimate space for all ages and levels of creative souls to meet, gather and express their creativity!! Our journey began and the destiny is magically unfolding.

Since opening  Art Lounge, my personal excitement for exploring my creative inclinations has been  delightful and gratifying. Although, I am the owner of an art gallery, I rarely indulged my own artistic sensitivities. Meeting the teachers and viewing the classes has made it simply irresistible  not explore my expressive side. Over the past year I took different classes and found my deepest passion in art journaling. I am more unstructured and organic towards art. The process of art journaling takes me on a meditative path while guiding me into a deep and timeless creative world. It is abundantly joyous !

So, for all of you DOUBTERS, who think of yourself as not being artistic I say “NOT TRUE” you must “EXPLORE YOU”. There is a medium for everyone and once you FIND “IT” you will be “BIT” with the LOVE of ART and CREATIVITY!!!  So, a big thanks to Art Lounge and the amazing teachers for making this past year, 2016, a divine year of creative and expressive growth for me!

Upon closing 2016 and moving into 2017 I am forever GRATEFUL for meeting Nancy, birthing the Art Lounge and meeting so many interesting students, teachers and joining in the  CREATIVE playground. Last but not least, a big thank-you to Nadya for her team assistance.

It’s been a GREAT RIDE and it’s just beginning!

Love and Cheers. Wishing Everyone Peace, Love and the Joy of Creative Expression.
